Seoul

Some pictures we took in our travels around Seoul.

A sculpture made of kitchen vessels and utensils in front of the Nanto Theater, which features a show called Cookin'. It is a percussion perfomance done with kitchen implements. We'd hoped to see the show, but when we went to the theater we learned they were closed the week we were there for renovation. Rats.

This picture of Joe was taken outside the COEX (Convention and exhibition center),
a very busy, expensive, trendy area. There is a large mall with may chain restaurants familiar to Americans, the InterContinental Hotel is on one side, a giant Hyundai department store (I think it was 10 floors of mostly very expensive designer goods) on another side--and all this was adjacent to the convention center. Another busy place.

Namdaemun Gate, the great south gate, was originally built in 1398. It is National Treasure #1 and the starting place for the Namdaemun market. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A large, old tree we saw which was propped up in several places and had a very nice wooden fence built around it.

Dongdaemun gate, the start of the Dongdaemun market. This gate was rebuilt after being destroyed during the Korean war.
